When driving a vehicle, it is very easy to do damage to your vehicle. On vehicles, there are specific areas that are more prone to damage than others. For instance, the car’s windshield is always vulnerable. If a rock flies up front under a tire, it could very well crash into your windshield and crack it. On the other hand, something might fall off of another vehicle and bump into your windshield. If this happens to cause a crack, you will need to place your windshield or purchase a windshield repair kit. Of course, you should always drive with the crack, but this is never recommended.
Repair or Replace
When you begin inspecting your damaged windshield, you will need to quickly determine whether to repair it or replace it. Does the crack appear that it is going to worsen? If the crack looks like it will expand with time, you should immediately replace the windshield. You don’t want to get on the interstate and have the glass break on you. If the crack isn’t all that bad, you should attempt to repair it using a windshield repair kit. Of course, it is important to remember that kits are only capable of fixing small cracks. If you have a large crack, you’ll need to contact a professional or have the entire glass replaced.
Repair Kits
When you purchase a windshield repair kit, you will receive a small little kit that includes resin. The clear resin is capable of fixing the crack, if it is used properly. In most cases, each of these kits is capable of repairing laminated windshields of all kinds. In general, you will receive a small bottle of repair resin, a few curling strips, a razor blade and a small repair device.
Is it worth it?
When it comes down to it, you will need to determine whether or not it is worth it to purchase a windshield repair kit. When you consider the price of replacing the entire glass, you could try a kit first. Since you can get a kit for less than twenty dollars, you will be able to save a great deal of money. Of course, these kits are not right for all situations. For instance, you will not be able to fix cracks that are longer than twelve inches. On the other hand, the crack must be less than one inch in diameter or the kit won’t work. To find out for sure, here at Ace Glass we will be able to advise you as to whether your windshield can be repaired or if you need a new one entirely.
Multiple Cracks
When you purchase one of these kits, you will receive enough resin and strips to fix several different cracks. If you’re able to use the kit properly, it may fix the crack.
