We do a lot of window repairs here at Ace Glass. So this means that we get to see a lot of windows in people’s homes. A lot of our customers ask us if we know of any easy ways to clean their vertical blinds, so let us take a look at the way we advise our customers.
Vertical blinds are very different from horizontal blinds when you are cleaning them. You can pick up vertical blind cleaning instruments in most hardware stores. If you really struggle to find one, you can actually take a set of tongs, get a cleaning sponge and put into the closures of the tongs and glue them in with waterproof glue, then leave them overnight and voila you have your own homemade blind cleaner.
The best thing to do is to get some old towels and place under your window frame, as this is quite a messy job. Undoubtedly you will still need to mop up after you have cleaned them. Fill a bucket with warm water, use some cleaning fluid, but not bleach as that could ruin your blinds. Then fill up a second bucket of warm water, this is the water which will be used to flush the soapy water off the vertical blinds. Dunk your new vertical blind cleaner into the soapy water and and ensure you get into all of the grooves and then you rinse the soap out of it and repeat with the clean warm water.
Now let them dry naturally. Open the blind up and your window so they can air dry properly. The only thing to be aware of is when they are dried there may be some water marks on the blinds which is often rather unsightly. So when you have rinsed the blinds with the warm water, ensure that any dripping water is removed so it won’t dry streaky.
