The many times here at Ace Glass we go out and repair and replace windows and we often get asked the question, “How can we keep our windows in top condition?” Now we are not talking necessarily about the window glass here. There are many good window cleaners on the market, or even a vinegar solution which will do the job on a budget and bring your window glass looking like new.
The main area that our customers want to know about is how to look after their UPVC frames. If they are white frames, it doesn’t take long until the frames are discolored and stained – and it can be very difficult to bring them up to there former glory when they were new.
Step one
Ensure any excess dirt and grease is cleaned from the frame of the window with a generic household cleaning solution such as Flash. Now that you have done this first step you will know what you are dealing with. In some cases this is all you need to actually bring your UPVC windows back from the dead. However if this doesn’t bring them back to sparkling white, then we move onto step two.
Step two
There are specialist cleaners for UPVC windows available on the market, which effectively act us a cutting wax. Think T-Cut for your car. they work by stripping the top layer of resin off the window frame, revealing a nice sparkly white surface underneath. In our experience, T-cut wax is just as good as the specialist UPVC cleaners and is much cheaper as well. Ensure that when you do this that the weather is not too hot, otherwise the wax can bake onto your window frame more making the job more difficult.
Once polished throughout the window frame, let to set for a couple of minutes then polish out with a fresh cloth. The result should leave you with a gleaming white window frame which will look as good as new.
